“Beyond Kandinsky” symposium

In 2011 it has been 100 years since the first Kandinsky’s classical text “On the Spiritual in Art” was published. The aim of the project inspired by this anniversary is to explore the place of the spiritual in contemporary art and to defy its devaluation in our market-oriented era.
The retrospective of Kandinsky’s views after 100 years of his book publication is a very valuable research, with the help of which it is possible to estimate in a new way the gap between art and those values that can be called “spiritual”.
Our main mission is to determine the means of dragging art from the world of entertainment and profit, to reunite it with spiritual life and to restore its legal rights as a world cognition method.
Two forums were created for this project realization: online symposium lasting for 10 days in April, and the exhibition of Nathaniel Dorsky’s works which took place on 5th April 2011 in New York. Both events were organized by the School of Visual Arts.
