Kandinsky paints Colorful Life, a large-scale work in a folkloric style, clearly showing the influence of Pointillism. He turns to themes from Russian folklore and fairy tales. He actively works in printmaking, creating color woodcuts and linocuts. He participates in the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants in Paris.

He encounters the work of the Fauves and Gauguin, which influences his own practice: forms become less naturalistic, and colors more intense.
