  • Continues working in geometric abstraction, exploring the basic forms — the circle, the rectangle, and the triangle. Important works from this year include Capricious Line, Yellow Accompaniment, Deep Brown (Tiefes Braun), Heavy Between Light (Schweres zwischen Leichtem), among others.
  • In March — founding of the group Die Blaue Vier (The Blue Four), together with Alexej von Jawlensky, Paul Klee, and Lyonel Feininger. The German-American artist and gallery owner Galka Scheyer was the inspiration and driving force behind the idea. She organized an extensive exhibition tour through cities in the United States and Mexico, which lasted until 1934 and significantly raised the artists' profile in America and worldwide.
