• This year, Kandinsky creates one of his most unusual works — Thirty (Trente). This distinct "abstract alphabet" represents a chessboard structure of 30 squares, favored by the artist, each filled with abstract miniatures.
  
• As part of the Nazi campaign against the avant-garde, the Degenerate Art (Entartete Kunst) exhibition takes place in Munich. Among the 650 paintings, sculptures, and prints by 112 artists, 14 works by Kandinsky are put on display out of the 57 that had been confiscated from museums by the Nazis.
  
• From February 21 to March 29: a solo retrospective at the Kunsthalle Bern — the exhibition Wassily Kandinsky / French Contemporary Masters.
  
• From June to October: a large-scale exhibition Masters of Independent Art 1895–1937 (Les Maîtres de l’Art Indépendant 1895–1937) at the Petit Palais in Paris.
  
• From July 30 to October 31: participation in the major international exhibition Origins and Development of Independent International Art (Origines et développement de l'art international indépendant) at the Musée du Jeu de Paume in Paris, which featured 177 works by 73 artists.
