- Despite extremely harsh living conditions, total shortages, and complete isolation, Kandinsky continues to work actively. During this year, he creates 7 oil paintings, including the large-scale canvas Reciprocal Accord, as well as the works At Rest, Intimate Message, and A Floating Figure. In addition, the master produces 21 completed works in gouache and watercolor.
- In Zurich, the Swiss publishing house Allianz-Verlag releases a collective portfolio of original graphics titled 10 Origin. For this landmark album, which brought together Europe's leading abstractionists, Kandinsky creates one original woodcut and writes the preface.
- July 21 – August 4 — A private solo exhibition of the artist, Vassily Kandinsky. Peintures et gouaches récentes, takes place at the Galerie Jeanne Bucher in Paris. However, the exposition comes to the attention of the occupying authorities and is forcibly closed by the Gestapo.
- December 1942 – February 1943 — A large-scale retrospective exhibition of the artist, Works by Kandinsky: A Retrospective Show, opens at the Nierendorf Gallery in New York.
