1943

  • Kandinsky’s health begins to decline noticeably, and the hardships of wartime intensify. Despite everything, the artist continues to work uninterruptedly. During this year, he creates 11 small-scale oil paintings on wood and cardboard (including Four figures on three squares, Around the Line, Darkness, Fragments, and others) and 19 completed gouaches and watercolors.
  • Kandinsky's exhibition activity in Europe ceases completely.
  • The major retrospective exhibition Works by Kandinsky: A Retrospective Show at the Nierendorf Gallery in New York continues its run until February.
