Kandinsky’s health begins to decline noticeably, and the hardships of wartime intensify. Despite everything, the artist continues to work uninterruptedly. During this year, he creates 11 small-scale oil paintings on wood and cardboard (including Four figures on three squares, Around the Line, Darkness, Fragments, and others) and 19 completed gouaches and watercolors.
Kandinsky's exhibition activity in Europe ceases completely.
The major retrospective exhibition Works by Kandinsky: A Retrospective Show at the Nierendorf Gallery in New York continues its run until February.
