1923

In July, Kandinsky completes Composition VIII — a key work of the Weimar period and now a purely geometric abstraction. The artist himself regarded this canvas as the culmination of his "post-war achievements."
Other significant works from this year include On White II, Black and Violet, Circles in a Circle, Transverse Line, Delicate Tension, Two Black Spots, and others.
With the painting Joyous Ascent, participates in the preparation of the Masters' Portfolio of the Staatliches Bauhaus — a portfolio to raise funds for the school.
Begins applying his theory of the three basic forms and colors in his teaching.
First solo exhibition in New York, organized by the Société Anonyme, of which he becomes vice-president.
Participation in the first major Bauhaus exhibition in Weimar.
