  • In July, Kandinsky completes Composition VIII — a key work of the Weimar period and now a purely geometric abstraction. The artist himself regarded this canvas as the culmination of his "post-war achievements."
  • Other significant works from this year include On White II, Black and Violet, Circles in a Circle, Transverse Line, Delicate Tension, Two Black Spots, and others.
  • With the painting Joyous Ascent, participates in the preparation of the Masters' Portfolio of the Staatliches Bauhaus — a portfolio to raise funds for the school.
  • Begins applying his theory of the three basic forms and colors in his teaching.
  • First solo exhibition in New York, organized by the Société Anonyme, of which he becomes vice-president.
  • Participation in the first major Bauhaus exhibition in Weimar.
