- 11 February — marries Nina Andreevskaya in Moscow. Their honeymoon takes them to Imatra, Finland, and they spend the summer at a dacha in Akhtyrka near Moscow. In September, their son Vsevolod is born.
- Death of his father, Vasily Silvestrovich Kandinsky, who leaves a considerable inheritance. After the October Revolution, however, the property is nationalized by the new authorities.
- Paintings take on an anxious and somber character: Overcast, Dusk, Grey Oval. Continues working in watercolor and reverse glass painting (Hinterglasmalerei) — in these small formats, the artist returns to folkloric and even religious subjects.
