1929
- According to Will Grohmann, "During the last years in Dessau, from 1929 to 1932, Kandinsky constantly gained in assurance and lightness of touch." At the same time, his formal and chromatic solutions grew more complex — in today's terms, his painting became more conceptual. Some scholars also detect in his works of this period a clear influence of Paul Klee. Key works: Upward, Circle and Spot, Sharp in Blunt, and Gelb Rosa.
- Political pressure on the Bauhaus from the Thuringian governmen becomes increasingly tangible. Criticism of the school as a "radical" and "un-German" project creates an uneasy atmosphere for faculty and students alike.
- Kandinsky begins a correspondence with the American artist Josef Albers that would last until 1940. Produces illustrations for poems by Surrealist writers such as Tristan Tzara and René Char.
- Exhibitions in Paris (Galerie Zak), The Hague (Kunstzaal de Bron), Brussels (Galerie Le Centaure), and Berlin (Galerie Ferdinand Möller).
