- In spring, leaves INKhUK due to disagreements with the Constructivists.
- Inauguration of the Russian Academy of Artistic Sciences (RAKhN), where Kandinsky becomes vice-president, heads its Physico-Psychological Division, and is actively involved in its work. By autumn, however, he realizes that his ideas are not gaining support. In the words of N. Punin, his art was "a disfigured spiritualism." Moreover, the new regime no longer favored the avant-garde, now demanding a new art — Socialist Realism.
- Paints Red Spot II, White Oval, Blue Segment, and other works in which geometry becomes increasingly dominant. Continues working in graphic art, for example the series of lithographs Small Worlds I.
- In December, Kandinsky and his wife leave for Berlin. Formally, it is a six-month assignment, but he would never return to his homeland.
